If Botterill were still GM i could guarantee it would be Bjugstad and Murray for Hutton and a 4th
I'm not even sure I'd trade Hutton for Murray straight up with Murray’s QO north of $4m.
McCann is a slightly more offensive Larsson. This is a whole lot of "meh." El paso |

I thought Murray's qualifying offer was $3.75M?
Although he is ARB. eligible as well. |

Pretty much everything we'd want from the Sabres we can't have and anything we can have will make us worse for wear. I would not trade with the Sabres. |

Oh ok, my bad. I thought it had to be 10% higher than his current salary. Doesnt really change my thinking at 3.75 vs. 4 |

I'll run this by you, and preface it by saying this is a pure trash-for-trash deal. So consider it in that vein:
Hutton, rights to Laurence Pilut and Okposo for Jack Johnson, Bjugstad and Murray.
Pens save $3m, sabres get new trash |

How on earth do we save #3 mil there? Yes. lets do it and get Johnson the (frank) out of here so he can't be played. At least they'd scratch Okposo maybe.
What exactly is the upside for the Sabres here? Seems like you're willingly taking on a lot of poop just for Murray, who you didn't sound to thrilled about a couple of posts ago. |

If Risto is coming to Pittsburgh as part of a Murray, Mccan deal then Johnson needs to be going back to the Sabres. I would think the Sabres would also add another piece... |

The Penguins trio makes $11.0 and the sabres duo is $8.75
So it's actually only $2.25
I just want to try some new trash. Maybe Bjugstad has 60 healthy games and can somewhat be a reasonable center. Okposo has 3 years left at $6 |

Yeah I guess there is something to be said about how big Okposo's cap hit is. From a practical stand point for us, so long as Jack Johnson is on this team he is going to play, so I just want him off at all costs. The overall cap savings is a bonus. |

A few of us joked about this trade over the last few blogs. I really hope this isn't becoming a self-fulfilled prophecy. A JJ/Risto pair would most certainly spell doom for the Penguins.
I don't even know that I'd want Miller. I'm very 50/50 on him. He has cracks in his game that I think would be amplified next to JJ. |

Pilut's next deal would be at around $1M or less, while Okposo's cap hit is $6M per.
The trio of Jack Johnson, Matt Murray, and Bjugstad have a combined cap hit of $11.1M.
The Penguins would be 'saving' $4.1M, but if they have no intention of extending Murray anyway, the net difference in savings is $.35M, which is almost nothing. |

What about Murray and McCann for Johansson and Mittelstadt? Not sure how much value Mittelstadt has right now, but I remember he showed flashes at times. |

No thank you.
Murray is a depreciating asset and McCann is very much the definition of a vanilla forward. |

Avs just lost their series based on questionable goaltending. If I’m JR I’m definitely waiting to see what they do regarding their goalie situation. |

i just dont get how unwavering the commitment is on JJ from GMJR. Is it more important to show how right he is instead of admitting he wasnt? And to potentially have 2 versions of johnson? Does sullivan not say "hey, wait a second....." But i would take risto if they took JJ. Just for change.
i just think there are better partners out there to trade with than buffalo. Perhaps Ottawa? They have seven 2nd round picks in the next 2 years. Or calgary? Edmonton? |
